How to use a torque wrench?

How to use a torque wrench?

Using a torque wrench usually involves the following steps:

1. Choose the appropriate torque: First, determine the exact torque value you need to tighten the bolt or nut. This value will usually be found in the car’s manual or other technical documentation.

2. Adjust wrench torque: Most torque wrenches have adjustable torque settings. Adjust the wrench according to the required torque value. Some wrenches have numbers on them, while others require you to set them based on markings.

3. Hold the wrench: Hold the torque wrench correctly, making sure your hands are in the right position to be able to apply the right amount of force.

4. Align the bolt or nut: Align the head of the torque wrench with the center of the bolt or nut, making sure the head is perpendicular to the surface of the workpiece.

5. Pre-tighten the bolts or nuts: Before tightening, lightly pre-tighten the bolts or nuts by hand to reduce friction during startup.

6. Use the correct torque: Start turning the wrench until the desired torque value is reached. Do not exceed this value to avoid damaging the bolt or nut.

7. Confirm torque: After reaching the required torque, pause and confirm the torque value. If necessary, the wrench can be readjusted to ensure accuracy.

8. Record torque values: When tightening multiple bolts or nuts, record the torque values for each bolt to ensure consistency.

9. Loosen the wrench: After completing the tightening work, loosen the handle of the torque wrench to release the torque.

10. Cleaning and Maintenance: Clean the torque wrench after use and store it in a dry, clean place. Perform regular maintenance to ensure tool performance and longevity.

Please note that different types of torque wrenches (such as electronic torque wrenches, mechanical torque wrenches, click torque wrenches, etc.) may have different usage methods and characteristics. Before using any tool, carefully read the manufacturer’s user manual to ensure proper and safe use of the torque wrench.
